Chapter 9 is the last chapter in this book and the end of an incredible journey. Years of vial treatment had finally ended in a true escape. The Blumenthals had reach America and were starting a new life. A relaxing sense of optimism can wash over readers as they regain hope for the future. I feel as if this provides a happy ending to an otherwise tragic story. There was a lot of struggle and loss, but ultimately the book ends on a good note. This is good for younger students, so they can feel a little better about what they have read.

Students can learn a lot from reading this book and have a better idea of the suffering that these people were subjected to. The book provided a vivid description of the events and matched it to the waves of emotions the individuals felt.
